Comfort in Adrar (7 nights in hostels and only one bivouac)

A trip specially designed to help you discover the charm of the Adrar region in comfort. This tour offers quality accommodation in hotels or guesthouses throughout the circuit (except for one night). Explore two historic towns, a Paleolithic site with its rock engravings, and enjoy a short camel ride.

YOUR TRIP

J 1 Arrival at night in Nouakchott, overnight stay in a hotel.

J 2 Nouakchott – Atar – Azoughi

Early departure after breakfast towards Adrar, passing through Akjoujt.

Lunch at a guesthouse. Visit to the city of Atar, the stromatolite site (fossil formations) at Kseir Terrchane (25 km north of Atar). We will cross the Tinzak Pass before enjoying tea under an acacia tree in the Teyaret wadi. Return to the guesthouse.

Overnight in Azoughi.

J 3 Azoughi - El Beyed

We leave Atar, heading towards El Beyed, in the foothills of the Adrar Mountains (the Baten).

We follow the Adrar escarpment, passing through the palm grove and the village of Amder before arriving at Dar Cheikh Mohamed Fadel (the site comprises the tomb and house of a famous 17th-century religious leader). Next, we cross the dry Chemchan sebkha (the clay bottom of a Paleolithic lake), which stretches for over 30 km.

Then we travel along the impressive Makhteir erg with its beautiful ochre dunes and the imposing Aderg inselberg, which rises 650 meters above the erg. Finally, we arrive at the Paleolithic site of El Beyed. We visit the rock engravings and the Museum of Prehistory.

J 4 El Beyyed - Guelb Er Richat - Ouadane

Departure in the morning towards Guelb Er Richat, a large geological formation nicknamed "the eye of the Earth" and a truly exceptional geological enigma. Visit to the Guelb and the wooded camp known as "Theodore Monod's Diocese." Picnic lunch.

We leave Guelb Er Richat heading south towards Hassi Thiba and the remains of the old Portuguese fort of Agoueidir, built around 1446, before arriving in Ouadane.

Overnight at the guesthouse.

J 5 Ouadane – Tenochert (ou Arghewiya)

Visit to the old town of Ouadane. Lunch at the guesthouse before departing in the early afternoon, crossing the sand and heading due west. Visit to the beautiful little palm grove of Tenochert, or, if necessary, leave Herour (an esker formed by a powerful glacial river) via a narrow pass, towards the small semi-nomadic encampment of Rghewiya.

J 6 Tenochert - Erghewiya - Chinguetti

Departure from Tenochert (or Arghewiya) towards the town of Chinguetti. Lunch at the inn, visit to one of the old libraries and the old town. Sunset on the Guitti dune.

J 7 Chinguetti

Camel ride in the morning and free time in the afternoon.

Overnight stay at the guesthouse.

J 8 Chinguetti – Mhaïreth

Departure from Chinguetti towards the beautiful palm grove of Mhaïreth. Lunch near the Toumbahjit guelta (waterhole) before continuing our journey towards the Terjit oasis. Visit to the warm spring.

Swimming possible. Overnight stay at the guesthouse.

J 9 Return to Nouakchott

Departure for Nouakchott, visit to the beach to watch the fishermen return.

Dinner at a restaurant in Nouakchott before boarding your flight to Europe.
